Choral Conductor’s Workshop

Eligibility:

Any choral conductor wishing to improve his/her skills as a conductor are eligible.  Candidates will include school, church and community choir conductors.
 

Focus:

The goal of this workshop is to provide insightful guidance on both technical and musical matters to each participant in a constructive, encouraging, and non-competitive environment.  6 active participants will be chosen to rehearse and work with Vocal Horizons Chamber Choir in a 25 minute session, receiving constructive feedback from Director, Vincent Cheng.   Each session will be video-recorded and a DVD will be given to each candidate at the end of the workshop.  The workshop will also involve seminars on score analysis, rehearsal preparation and conducting technique.

Fees:

Active Participant - $100

Auditor - $25 (includes all sessions)

Fees are due upon notice of acceptance to the workshop (by cheque or paypal) and must be received by Friday March 2, 2012.  The fee will act as a deposit to reserve each Participant/Auditor’s place in the workshop.  Participants will receive a refund only if their reservation is filled by another participant.
 

Repertoire:

Repertoire List will be sent to all accepted candidates.  It will include a selection of pieces from various time periods and styles (classical, renaissance, contemporary/pop, sacred/secular).  All candidates are to prepare all of the repertoire and to provide their own music.

12pm – 1pm  : Lunch Break

1pm – 3pm    : Seminar – “Conducting Technique” + Participant Conducting Sessions with group.
 

Sunday, April 15, 2012

 4pm – 7pm     : Participant Conducting Sessions with Vocal Horizons Chamber Choir

Deadline/Application:

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  JANUARY 31, 2012

All applicants (participant or auditor) must fill out the following application form HERE.  For those wishing to be selected as participants, an optional DVD or YouTube video link of no more than 15 minutes will be acceptable to aid in the selection process and workshop outline.  The video can be of a performance or a rehearsal.  Each participant will work to his/her ability, focusing on areas to achieve maximum results from the session. 

Candidates will be notified of their acceptance by February 17, 2012.
