Conductor Bio

Born in Toronto, Canada, Vincent Cheng studied piano with reknown composer, An Lun Huang. He became accompanist as early as age 12 and associate organist studying at St. Michael’s Choir School, receiving both ARCT Piano and Organ Performer’s diplomas shortly after. Upon graduating as an electrical engineer from the Univeristy of Waterloo, he continues to be the organist for the parish of St. Luke and the Senior Choir music director for the parish of St. Rose of Lima.
Vincent founded Vocal Horizons Chamber Choir in November 2005, and has since brought the choir to astonishing heights: 1st place in National and Provincial Music Festivals 2008, Gold Award at Musicfest Canada 2008, semi-finalists for the CBC radio choir competition 2008, releasing “Rhapsody in White” CD, becoming the resident choir for Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, performing at the Toronto Raptors’ Home Opener 2009 and for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay Celebration.
Vincent is honoured to be the Assistant Conductor, Chorusmaster and Orchestral Pianist for the Toronto Philharmonia. His experience includes conducting: The Toronto Philharmonia, Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra, Rosecity Chamber Orchestra, The Greater Toronto Philharmonic and The Mendelssohn Choir’s Singsation Workshop.
In addition to conducting, Vincent has produced three CDs as sound engineer: Grand Night of Music 2 and 3, and Vocal Horizons’ most recent release, “Rhapsody in White”.
Vincent is also an avid arranger and composer for orchestra and choir, debuting a recent arrangement performed at the Toronto Raptor’s opening game Oct, 2009. His arrangement for “10 pianos and 20 pianists” of Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 took the audience by storm with performances at Nathan Philips and Mel Lastman Square. His arrangement of Silent Night is featured on “Rhapsody in White”. In 2010, Vincent will compose a new commissioned work for Motus O Dance Company.
His career continues to blossom as he gains experience through various ensembles and from his influential and inspiring mentor, Kerry Stratton.
